XNH Players of the Week Awards – XFL Week 1

It’s been an exciting weekend of football, and we’ve seen some great play out of the XFL’s talented pool. The XFL News Hub staff has voted, and these three players are now forever enshrined as the inaugural class of XNH’s Players of the Week.

Offense – QB PJ Walker – HOU

Stats: 23/39 Passing (59%) – 272 Pass Yards – 4 TD – 1 INT – 103.8 Rating. 26 Rush Yards

The Roughnecks passer had only just earned the starting gig last Wednesday, but he’s made a massive splash in the first week. In the Roughnecks 37-17 blowout of the LA Wildcats (sans Josh Johnson), Walker dominated through the air, throwing 4 TD’s. He made the Wildcats defense look so lost out there, Winston Moss just cut Captain LB Anthony Johnson and Defensive Coordinator Pepper Johnson.

Defense – LB Bunmi Rotini Jr. – NY

Stats: 9 Tackles – 1 Sack – 2 QB Hits – 2 Tackle for Loss – 1 Forced Fumble

The Guardians defense charmed the Vipers offense, holding them to 3 points on the day. Leading the charge was Old Dominion LB Bunmi Rotini Jr, a name we’re just getting familiar with. He was swarming to the ball all day, and was a punishing force when he got there. His compadre LB Ben Heeney looked great too, and this tandem should keep playcallers up at night all season long.

Special Teams – P Marquette King – STL

The Battlehawks had a great day against a Landry Jones-less Dallas team, and while they had great play in all phases Marquette King really caught our eye on ST. He had a rock solid 45.2 yards/punt, but it his efforts to pin Dallas inside the 20 that earned him ST Player of the Week. He landed 2/5 inside the 20 yard line in clutch moments, and would’ve had 3 if not for an unfortunate dive by one of his teammates. XFL Sideline Reporter, Comedian and former Punter Pat McAfee had some choice words about that one.

Honorable Mentions

WR Nelson Spruce – LA (11 Rec, 103 Yards)

WR Austin Proehl – SEA (5 Rec, 88 Yards, 2 TD’s)

LB Steven Johnson – SEA (8 Tackles, 2 Tackles for loss)

S Rahim Moore – D.C. (3 Tackles, 1 INT, 1 PD)

Stay tuned for another week of action! We’ll be covering it all here on XFL News Hub, also be sure to check out our new stats tracker to stay updated on all the numbers!

You are the first one I’ve seen mention Rotini! I went to the game and it was clear that he was the star on Defense. Thanks for adding him to the list, there isn’t many week one reviews that are talking about Defenses, DC also had a great looking D. Great write up!
