The LA Wildcats faced off against the Houston Roughnecks for the third preseason game in XFL history on Tuesday afternoon. The two teams combined for 41 points and over 600 yards of total offense.
The Roughnecks got on the board first thanks to a 47-yard field goal by Kicker Sergio Castillo. In his 4 years with the CFL, Castillo was 80-92 kicking field goals with a long of 57 yards in 2017.

The Wildcats answered back with a touchdown and a successful 2 point conversion making it 8-3 at the end of the first quarter.
At the start of the second quarter, PJ Walker fired a ball to a wide-open Sam Mobley who torched the defense and took it to the house. The Roughnecks would miss the extra point but would retake the lead 9-8 with 14:50 left in the second quarter.
Connor Cook would get some action as well finding Kahlil Lewis open down the sideline for a 55-yard touchdown helping them extend their lead 15-8 with 6:27 left in the 2nd quarter. The Roughnecks success would not stop there. They recovered a fumble and would tack on three more points to put them up by 10 going into halftime.
The Wildcats would turn the ball over on downs to the Roughnecks however, the Roughnecks drive stalled and LA started a comeback. They would score with 6:33 left in the third quarter and make it 18-14. The Wildcats continued to claw their way back and retook the lead thanks to a touchdown caught by Nelson Spruce in the back of the end-zone which put them up 20-18 at the end of the third quarter.
The Wildcats would finish the game on top 23-18 after shutting down the Roughneck offense in the second half. Willie Mayes of the Wildcats finished the game with 3 sacks.
The Wildcats dominated the second half as well as the time of possession and first downs. Houston looked strong in the first half but could not continue their passing success in the second half.
