Many of the players who are playing in The Spring League are doing so for several different reasons. It may not be as glamorous as the NFL, but it is an opportunity to get more film and to stay sharp with game reps.
Glenn Harris, one of The Blues defensive backs, recently talked with me about his experience playing in The Spring League previously, his path to get here, and what he hopes to get out of this season.
Harris only played one year of high school football at Center High School in his home town of Kansas City, MO. After that he attended Northland Community & Tech College for a year and then he transferred to Chabot College.
After a year at Chabot is when Harris moved on to Wayne State College and found a lot of success there. He was named to NSIC First Team South Division and he matched a school record with 8 interceptions. The other honors he received were D2CCA All-Super Region 4 Second Team, D2Football.com All-America Honorable Mention, Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Super Region 4 First Team and All-America Second Team. He accomplished “All of this is from the mud,” as he put it during our conversation.
When we talked about his impression of The Spring League, he had nothing but positive things to say. He talked about feeling welcomed and wanted and how each person can make the experience what you want. He personally loved playing football and just has fun and enjoys participating. He also snagged 3 interceptions in his brief time with the league.
Harris has been staying ready for the upcoming season by working out in his hometown at the Powerhouse Fitness & DoWork Factory and feels excited to get out on the field to play.
I asked Harris what he thought about playing in this COVID environment and if he had any concerns. He told me that he feels like the league has the right procedure in place and that if everyone does the right thing and takes care of their bodies, that this season will go off without a hitch.
When we discussed what Harris was hoping to get out of this season, he answered like any athlete would, “I am hoping to play well, and to make it to the championship.”
Finally, I asked Harris if he had anything else he wanted to share. He reiterated to me how hard he has worked to get to this point in his career and that he is a “Ballhawk.”
He may not be a household name to some, but Harris is proof that if you work hard that you can be successful in what you love. He came “from the mud,” to now playing in The Spring League with former players from the NFL, XFL, CFL, and others. Hopefully he gets the chance to shine this season for the Blues when the season kicks off next week.

I graduated from Illinois College in 2011 with a degree in history. I also played on the baseball team there.
