Game 2 of Week 5 in the XFL season saw the DC Defenders remain undefeated, beating the St Louis Battlehawks in The Battle Dome 28 – 20. The Defenders are now 5 – 0. Battlehawks are tied for second in the North division with the Seattle Sea Dragons at 3 – 2. Both St Louis losses came at the hands of DC.
The Defenders could not be stopped on the ground. Jordan Ta’amu didn’t do much in the air. He finished with 90 yards on 18 attempts. It was all about the #1 overall pick in the XFL draft, Abram Smith.
The Defenders could not be stopped rushing for 248 yards for the game and 4 touchdowns. Abram Smith set an XFL record with 218 yards on 23 carries for 3 touchdowns, including a 70 yard run. Deriq King rushed for the other touchdown.
Lucky Jackson had 5 catches for 54 yards and 7 targets. Chris Blair, who has been hot as of late, had 2 catches for 18 yards on 3 targets.
The Battlehawks came to play in front of a crowd of 35,868 at The Dome. A. J. McCarron put in another solid performance. He finished with 236 yards on 34 attempts with 2 touchdown and 1 interception.
As a team, the Battlehawks rushed for 98 yards. Brian Hill lead the way again as the featured back. He had 14 carries for 79 yards.
Hakeem Butler is still McCarron’s favorite target. He led receivers with 9 catches for 86 yards on 12 targets. Darrius Shepherd had 3 catches for 30 yards on 5 targets.
