Vipers Trade For WR S.J. Green, Make More Roster Moves

Transaction Alert Graphic (via Twitter @XFLVipers)

The Tampa Bay Vipers have announced a flurry of roster moves headlined by the acquisition of former Canadian Football League wide receiver S.J. Green via trade with the Seattle Dragons. Green was an eight-time CFL all-star with over 10,000 receiving yards in the league.

In a move posted to the league’s transaction page, the Vipers sent linebacker Korey Toomer, who wasn’t an active member of the 52-man roster, to the Dragons in return. Green became an active list addition for the Dragons the same day he was traded, meaning his addition immediately takes up a roster spot for Tampa.

To accompany the trade, the team also announced the following moves:

  • Vipers ADD Defensive Tackle Shane Bowman from the league’s Team 9
  • Vipers WAIVE Wide Receiver Seantavius Jones
  • Vipers WAIVE Running Back Mack Brown

For the majority of training camp Bowman was with the Seattle Dragons, but the 24-year old was included in a 4-player trade that sent himself and QB Chase Litton to Tampa Bay. Bowman had a brief stint with the Vipers before being cut ahead of official 52-man roster announcements.

Jones was originally expected to be one of the main contributors at wide receiver at the beginning of training camp. That was until the team brought in Antonio Callaway (now on IR with injury) and Daniel Williams who emerged as a surprise starter. Ever since the Valdosta State product was unused in week one and only managed one catch for 12 yards in week two.

Brown found himself last on the depth chart at running back behind De’Veon Smith (125 Yds.) and Jacques Patrick (105 Yds.) who are both in the top-5 in the league in rushing. The only RB duo to boast the statistic.

Brown hasn’t received looks through the first two games, so the cut doesn’t come as a shock. But now the Vipers carry two running backs on their roster, with Tarean Folston on injured reserve, so Brown can be kept in mind as an injury replacement if it’s needed later in the season.

Both Bowman and Green are included on the team’s official week three depth chart.
