In a move posted to the XFL Transaction page late last night, the Tampa Bay Vipers have made a trade to help bolster their struggling secondary. The team adds 26-year-old corner Trey Caldwell while sending out depth linebacker Anthony Stubbs.
Stubbs was listed fifth on the Vipers depth chart at the linebacker position and struggled to see time on the field. There’s a similar story for Caldwell, who was on the back-half of the BattleHawks depth chart at cornerback and has gotten most of his on field reps as a part of the special teams unit (one assisted tackle).
Caldwell should factor into the Vipers depth chart somewhere between CB4 and CB5. With Jalen Collins’ health in question, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see the new acquisition on the field Sunday.
The trade marks the end of an up-and-down tenure for Stubbs. The linebackers was originally waived by the Vipers on Jan. 22 before being re-signed on Jan. 28.
