Patriots Add Vipers WR Mathew Sexton to Practice Squad

The Patriots made a transaction that may spark some interest for XFL fans. Mathew Sexton is returning to the NFL this time with the New England Patriots, after spending some time with the Atlanta Falcons earlier in the year on their Practice Squad.

Sexton has been all around various football leagues since coming out of Eastern Michigan in 2020. After cutting his teeth in Brian Woods’ “Spring League” Sexton would earn an NFL opportunity with the Steelers (2021) and Chiefs (2022) only to be selected by the Vipers in the 8th round of the 2022 XFL draft. Sexton appeared in all 10 games in 2023 for Vegas totaling 514 All-Purpose Yards (364 Receiving, 49 Kick Return, 101 Punt Return) in 2023.

Sexton is one of Three Vipers currently on an NFL payroll at this time. Between Martavis Bryant (Cowboys PS), and Brandon Dillon (Commanders IR), Vegas continues into the off-season with Jeff Badet, Geronimo Allison, and Cinque Sweeting all expected to lead the Wide Receiver room in 2024. Last season, under Rod Woodson the Vipers went 2-8 in the 2023 season, going into 2024 the Vipers will be led by new Head Coach Anthony Blevins.
