The Pittsburgh police have arrested former Guardians RT and current Steelers Practice Squad member Jarron Jones for an alleged assault that happened early Saturday morning.
Jones has been charged 2 felonies and a misdemeanor in what police say was a physical altercation with his girlfriend.
The police were called to his residence at 2am, and arrived to find a woman walking out of an apartment crying and obviously disturbed. Once she told them there had been a fight, they immediately detained Jones, according to the report.
The complaint, obtained by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says that Jones returned home by himself after a night out with his girlfriend. She returned home later, started yelling at him, and breaking things in the apartment.
The victim says he strangled her and struck her in the face, but Jones denies doing so, only saying he picked her up and put her outside. The police report says there were abrasions on her head, arm, and chest areas.
The Steelers are aware, and GM Kevin Colbert said this in a statement:
“We are aware of the situation regarding Jarron Jones. We are gathering all of the details of these disturbing allegations, but we will not comment any further at this time.”Statement by Steelers GM Kelvin Colbert
The Steelers signed Jones to their practice squad after cutting the roster down to the initial 53-man list. He was selected in the first round of Phase 2 by the New York Guardians, to play RT, after playing on the defensive line at Notre Dame, and several NFL practice squads.
