Taylor Heinicke has signed with the Washington Football Team. He becomes the 2nd BattleHawks player to get on an NFL team this week, with Taylor Russolino signing with the Broncos.
As was reported by our Mike Mitchell via Twitter, BattleHawks QB Taylor Heinicke worked out for the Washington Football Team. Following that workout, Heinicke has signed with the club.
The idea is for Heinicke to be a “quarantine QB”. Meaning he will be isolated from the team, but available if needed.
NFL fans saw the Broncos lose their whole QB room to COVID-19 protocols violations, having to use a former Wake Forest dual-threat-turned WR at the most important position on the football field.
Heinicke, an Old Dominion product, played for Rivera and OC Scott Turner in Carolina, where he backed up Cam Newton. He saw the field briefly last year when Newton was injured, until he went out himself.
Taylor backed up QB Jordan Ta’amu in St Louis in the XFL early this year, although never saw the field.
This idea of a QB away from the team this year should be something all teams may employ. The Eagles had Josh McCown earlier this year on their practice squad, but away from the team until he was signed by the Texans.
Jake Fromm has been in isolation as well in Buffalo, but does attend meetings at the facility, only working out with select players.
While we would love to see another XFL player hit the field, under the circumstances, we hope it doesn’t have to happen.
