The Battlehawks are finally complete. After the release of Ryan Willis, last week the Battlehawks went into final cuts as the only team with Two Quarterbacks, on the roster, however per an XFL press release made it very clear that they were adding an additional player. On Super Bowl Sunday, the Battlehawks completed their roster. Per XFL Analyst the Battlehawks added former Arizona State Quarterback Manny Wilkins completing their roster with opening kickoff less than a week away.
Wilikins comes to the Battlehawks after beating out Memphis Showboats Quarterback Brady White in 2016. Wilkins would start 35 games in college throwing for over 8,600 passing yards with 52 Passing Touchdowns. Wilkins also utilized his athletic ability added another 1,035 rushing yards and 20 Touchdowns on the ground. After going undrafted in 2019, Wilkins signed with the Green Bay Packers spending all over 2019 on their practice squad. In April of 2020, he’d be released upon the drafting of Utah State Quarterback Jordan Love.
Wilkins has ties to the Battlehawks DPP Dave Boller who was with the Arizona State Program from 1980 to 1995, and briefly returned to the school in 2022. Wilkins also participated in the XFL’s Arizona Showcase solidifying his interest in professional football and the XFL. According to sources, Wilkins had also drawn the interest of several USFL teams as well.
With the Battlehawks QB room and roster complete, the team is fully concentrated on making a championship run in 2023. Wilkins most likely comes in to “St. Louis” as the team’s 3rd string Quarterback, behind AJ McCarron, and Nick Tiano however could easily make a push to overtake Tiano as the team’s Backup due to his experience and athletic ability. Regardless, for Wilkins a player who hasn’t been in Pro Football since 2019, the XFL offers an opportunity for him to continue his pro career and participate in a game that so many people love.
