As the football season intensifies, teams are swiftly adapting their rosters to bolster their chances on the field. The Atlanta Falcons, staying true to this mantra, have made significant adjustments by tapping into the talent pool of the XFL.
In a strategic move on Thursday, the Falcons freed up four roster spots, subsequently filling them by Friday morning. The new entrants heralding from the XFL’s 2023 season include defensive linemen Matthew Gotel and Caeveon Patton, wide receiver Mathew Sexton, and offensive lineman Michal Menet.
Diving deeper into the credentials of these players, Gotel, formerly of the San Antonio Brahmas, has shown consistent prowess with 23 tackles in 10 games. He also boasts three seasons at the University of West Florida, positioning him as an experienced candidate for the Falcons’ defensive lineup.
Michal Menet, who played for the Seattle Sea Dragons, isn’t new to the NFL circuit. He was initially a seventh-round pick by the Cardinals in 2021 and briefly associated with the Packers. His experience in both the NFL and XFL makes him a valuable asset to the Falcons’ offensive line.
Caeveon Patton, having played for the Orlando Guardians, earned himself a spot in the All-XFL team, showcasing his potential in the defensive segment. His stint with the Colts in 2022 further solidifies his role in the Falcons’ defense.
Lastly, the Vegas Vipers’ star, Mathew Sexton, rounds out the Falcons’ new additions. Sexton, a wide receiver, impressively accumulated 23 catches for 364 yards in the XFL, indicating his potential to be a game-changer for the Falcons.
These strategic signings came in the wake of the Falcons’ decision to waive/injure three of their players, including tight end Feleipe Franks, and placing Ethan Greenidge on the injured reserve list.
The new mix of seasoned NFL players and emerging XFL stars positions the Atlanta Falcons as a team to watch. Whether these additions will elevate the Falcons’ game remains to be seen, but the intent to innovate and strengthen is crystal clear.
