Football fans may be dreading the fact that Super Bowl LVII will be the last of the NFL action that they will get to see until the summer. However, we all know that this is not the end of competitive American football, though.
The conclusion of the Super Bowl on February 12, 2023, might mean the end of the NFL, but it also means the start of the XFL! The league may not attract the same kind of attention in regards to audiences, fanfare, or even on betting activities like playing bitcoin poker and wagering on the games as they take place, nonetheless, it does remain one that will be as highly competitive.
Indeed, when you consider that there will be several ex-NFL personnel involved throughout the season, then it should not come as a surprise when we see plenty of competitive football on the gridiron once the action gets underway!
Each of the eight teams has already confirmed their 51-man rosters, therefore it can be a great time to take a look at just who we could potentially end up seeing on the field, with many of us likely to scratch our heads and go “I know and recognize that name from somewhere?!”
Josh Gordon
Josh Gordon is certainly a name many will remember, albeit for perhaps wrong reasons. The 31-year-old wide receiver has been on a plethora of teams in the past, with the Cleveland Browns, the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, and most recently the Tennessee Titans all on his resume.
However, he has missed a lot of playing time due to being suspended for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He will now get his opportunity to get his football career back on track as he joins the Seattle Sea Dragons for the 2023 XFL season. Gordon is a player to certainly watch as he can have moments of brilliance.
Paxton Lynch
A quarterback that has been on a number of NFL rosters including the Denver Broncos – where he played his five NFL matches of his career – the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Seattle Seahawks. He is a player with vast experience, as he has also played in the CFL and the USFL in recent years. Now of the Orlando Guardians in the XFL, the QB will be looking to show everyone that he can play football to a high quality and potentially get back on an NFL roster in the future.
AJ McCarron
Another QB that has been in and around the NFL throughout their career, AJ McCarron will be lining up for the St. Louis Battlehawks in the 2023 XFL campaign. Drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals, he spent time with the Buffalo Bills, the Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, and Atlanta Falcons before missing out on the 2022 NFL season.
Martavis Bryant
Wide receiver Martavis Bryant is another player that is likely to be rather familiar with NFL fans as he managed to create a reputation for himself. Unfortunately, this was not always on the field, either. During his time in the league between 2014 and 2018 with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Oakland Raiders, he managed to score 17 touchdowns. However, he was also hit with a suspension as he violated the substance abuse policy, too. Bryant has played in the CFL and IFL, but will now give the XFL a crack with the Vegas Vipers.
