XFL 2020 Cities Review: Dallas, Texas

When it was announced on January 25th, 2018 that the XFL will be returning in February 2020, it was also announced that the league will be comprised of eight host cities. Those teams will be playing in their respective stadiums that will be their home sites for the entire 2020 season. One of those cities is Dallas, Texas. The other cities are Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, California; St. Louis, Missouri; New York; Seattle, Washington; Tampa Bay, Florida & Washington D.C. The XFL Dallas Franchise will be playing their games at Globe Life Park in Arlington Texas. The Stadium is being repurposed as a football venue after MLB’s Texas Rangers, relocates to the newly built Globe Life Field.

Dallas Area

Dallas is the third-largest city in Texas after Houston & San Antonio and the ninth-largest city in The United States. Dallas is located in the The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Area. It is located northeast part of Texas. The Oklahoma border is about an hour and a half south. It is the largest metropolitan area in the Southern USand is the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the country with 7.3 Million people. Home to 10 Fortune 500 companies, including names such as Halliburton, Southwest Airlines & Texas Instruments.

Dallas Sports Teams

Dallas has six professional sports teams, including Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers who play in Arlington. The city’s professional football team, NFL’s The Dallas Cowboys, have won five Super Bowl titles. Dallas’ professional hockey team, National Hockey League’s The Dallas Stars, won The Stanley Cup in The 1998–1999 season. Also playing are The NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and two pro soccer teams, The Burn, an outdoor team and The Sidekicks, an indoor team. The Mesquite Championship Rodeo has weekly competitions from April through September. Dallas also hosts college football’s Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day.

The XFL Dallas Franchise will be the first professional outdoor football team to play in The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metroplex. The Dallas Texans of The AFL left the area to become The Kansas City Chiefs years ago. The area has been represented by a bunch of indoor teams like as The Arena Football League’s Dallas Texans, Fort Worth Cavalry, Dallas Desperados, Dallas Vigilantes, The Indoor Football League’s Allen Wranglers and Texas Revolution.

XFL Dallas will enter a relatively crowded winter sports market against the NHL’s Stars and NBA’s Dallas Mavericks. The team will have to compete with MLS’s FC Dallas in March & April as well.

Bob Stoops

On February 7th, 2019, it was announced that Bob Stoops, the longtime Head Coach of the Oklahoma Sooners, will be the new Head Coach of the XFL’s Dallas Team. Stoops was the XFL’s first head coach to be hired.

Dallas, having a rich history in the professional football industry, especially with the Dallas Cowboys, can really play a huge role for The XFL’s Dallas Team. The success and experience that the Dallas Cowboys have can very much be duplicated and showcased by the XFL’s Dallas team once the league returns in February 2020. Great things are expected from this franchise and one can only imagine what other experiences and success this team can bring with Bob Stoops at the helm.
