When WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon announced the XFL will be returning in February 2020, it was revealed that there will be eight cities and stadiums that will be the home sites of the league. One of those cities is Seattle, Washington. The other cities are Dallas, Texas; Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, California; New York, St. Louis, Missouri; Tampa Bay, Florida & Washington D.C. The Seattle XFL Franchise will be playing their games at The CenturyLink Field, where The NFL’s Seattle Seahawks currently play their NFL Games.
CenturyLink Field is said to have been the home of The Seattle Seahawks since 2002. This open-air football stadium is said to have a capacity of over 68,000 fans and a roof covering over 70 percent of the seating area. Its wide concourses offer outstanding views of The Seattle Skyline and are said to be nearby Safeco Field, The Cascades & Mount Rainier, Puget Sound & The Olympic Mountains. This stadium was uniquely constructed for sound and has twice held The Guinness World Record for loudest crowd at an outdoor stadium.
Seattle is said to be a Seaport City which is on the West Coast of The United States. This city is also supposed to be the Seat Of King County, Washington, with an estimated 730,000 residents as of 2018. Seattle is said to be the largest city in both the State Of Washington & the Pacific Northwest Region Of the US.
U.S. Census data released in 2018 said, The Seattle Metropolitan Area’s population stands at 3.87 Million and ranks 15th largest in the United States. In July 2013, Seattle was said to be the fastest-growing major city in The United States, and it remained in the Top 5 in May 2015 with an annual growth rate of 2.1%. In July 2016, Seattle was repeated to be the fastest-growing major U.S. City, with a 3.1% yearly growth rate. Seattle is also said to be the northernmost largest city in The United States.
Seattle is situated on an isthmus between Puget Sound (an inlet of The Pacific Ocean) & Lake Washington, is about 100 miles south of the Canada–US border. It is also a major gateway for trade with Asia. Seattle is said to be the fourth-largest port in North America in terms of container handling as of 2015.
Seattle’s sports history began with the Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA)’s Seattle Metropolitans. In 1917 they became the First American Hockey Team to win the Stanley Cup.
Seattle’s sports continues today with the city’s seven major professional teams;
(NFL)’s Seattle Seahawks
(MLB)’s Seattle Mariners
MLS)’s Seattle Sounders FC
(WNBA)’s Seattle Storm
The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL)’s Reign FC
Major League Rugby (MLR)’s Seattle Seawolves
The Future National Hockey League (NHL)’s Seattle NHL Team.
Seattle is also said to boast a strong history in collegiate sports, with two National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Schools: The University Of Washington & Seattle University and One NCAA Division II School, Seattle Pacific University.
In 1976, one of the biggest names in Seattle’s sports history, The NFL’s Seattle Seahawks began to play. The Seahawks would enter The National Football League in 1976 as an expansion team and has since advanced to The Super Bowl three times: 2005, 2013 & 2014. The Seahawks would play in The Kingdome until it was imploded in the year 2000 and moved into Qwest Field (now known as CenturyLink Field) at the same site in the year 2003. The Seahawks would then lose Super Bowl XL in the year 2005 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Detroit but would win Super Bowl XLVII in 2013 by defeating The Denver Broncos 43–8 at MetLife Stadium. The Seahawks advanced to the Super Bowl the following year, but lost to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX. The Seahawks fans have said to set the stadium noise records on several occasions and are collectively known as the “12th Man”.
NFL Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll said that “he doesn’t mind” the fact that The XFL will be hosting a team in Seattle. He wnt on “in fact, if anything…Seattle should welcome the new league with open arms.” The Seattle XFL Franchise is said to be filling a hole in the Seattle Professional sports scene during the winter months. The Seahawks play in the fall, while the Seattle Mariners play in the spring and summer. The Seattle Sounders FC Soccer Team plays from spring through fall. The unamed Seattle Hockey Team will not begin to play until late 2021. Former Seahawks Quarterback Jim Zorn was named as The Head Coach of the Seattle XFL Team on February 25th, 2019.
The Seattle, Washington Area has a huge history not only in the Professional Football Industry but in the Industry Of Sports as a whole. This experience will play a significant role in their success when The XFL begins to play in February 2020. The huge success that was amassed by the Seattle Seahawks can also be the same amount of success or even more than the Seattle XFL Team gains.
