It looks like the XFL is getting serious with its contracts. Early this week, the Detroit Lions tried to sign Los Angeles Wildcats QB Josh Johnson. We now have learned the Tampa Bay Vipers OC Jaime Elizondo was blocked as well.
According to Farhan Lalji ;
“The #XFL has denied permission for the #Eskimos to speak to Jamie Elizondo about their head coaching vacancy. I believe he would have been the favorite to land the job. Tough break for him after not being allowed to speak to #Riders before this past season. @CFLonTSN @CFL”
Elizondo followed head coach Marc Trestman to Tampa Bay from the Ottawa Redblacks of the CFL. Elizondo was the OC under Trestman.
The XFL did let Todd Washington of the DC Defenders take a New York Jets coaching position before the start of the NFL season. They also allowed Catherine Raiche to leave Tampa Bay For NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles. These all took place way before the XFL draft.
The XFL is interested in keeping its players and coaches locked in as mini-camps start next week. Look for more of these types of stories as we get to the 2020 kick-off.

The Ottawa Roughriders haven’t existed since 1996.
The current CFL team in Ottawa is called the Redblacks (nee 2014).

This should tell you that Vince McMahon is declaring WAR on ALL football leagues just like with wrestling promotions. But does he still have a brain to succeed LONG TERM this time?
