The New York franchise has added Jerald Ingram to their coaching staff. Ingram will reunite with XFL New York’s head coach Kevin Gilbride as the teams Running Backs coach.
Gilbride and Ingram worked together from 2004 to 2013 with the
New York Giants, in which they helped led the Giants to two Super Bowl
victories, one of which is considered the greatest upset in Super Bowl history
when they beat the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
Ingram started his coaching career as a graduate assistant
in 1984 after playing for Michigan as fullback under Bo Schembechler from 1979
to 1981. He then went to Ball State University and coached tight ends and
running backs from 1986 to 1990 and finished his collegiate career with Boston
College coaching running backs in 1993. His first NFL job came in ’95 when he
followed Tom Coughlin as he went from Boston College to be head coach for the
new NFL expansion team Jacksonville Jaguars, Ingram would be his running backs
coach. Then in 2004 after Coughlin was let go from Jacksonville Ingram went to
be his running backs coach for the New York Giants.
Altogether Ingram has coached many players to have great NFL
careers, his most notable achievement is developing running back Tiki Barber
into one of the best in his last final seasons. Barber rushed for over 5,000
yards in 2004 through 2006 with a total of 27 touchdowns and 9 fumbles while
only losing 4. For those 3 years Barber would be an All-Pro. Other notable
names are; Fred Taylor, Ahmad Bradshaw, James Stewart and Brandon Jacobs.
Many fans are excited to see all the moves the league is making and Jerald Ingram has a unique skill and style that he brings with him to the XFL and I for one am very anxious to see what he brings to the New York franchise.
