On Monday, the 52-man finalized rosters from the 8 teams of the XFL were released to the public. For the Dragons, we have further learned that QB Brandon Silvers has been named the starter over former Seattle Seahawks backup, BJ Daniels. According to the Seattle Times, HC Jim Zorn named Silvers the starter after a competitive training camp and pre-season.
For the fans in Seattle, Silvers is a relatively unknown name with no connection to the area. BJ Daniels, now the backup, played for the Seattle Seahawks between 2013 and 2015 and has a more raw, explosive talent. The Dragons and Coach Zorn have decided to go with Silvers who has appeared more consistant in camp.
“He’s probably been more effective throwing the ball,” Zorn said of Silvers, who was assigned to the team before the draft. “He doesn’t move as well as B.J., but his concern is to do what he does well. B.J. is coming on, and we have high expectations for him, but we can only play one at a time.”
Silver, 25, spent some time in the Saints and Jets camp and started two games with the AAF Memphis Express accumulating 799 yards, 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. In his four years at Troy University, he compiled 10,677 yards with a 64.1% completion percentage and finished his career with a 135.8 passer rating.
