The Battlehawks are making a change in their Special Teams room, with their Coordinator Tory Woodbury announcing via Twitter he will not be returning to “Hawks Nation” next season. Woodbury was a late addition to Coach Becht’s staff joining the team on December 18th with confirmation coming from Becht’s twitter late last year.
Woodbury led a Unit that not only saw Darrius Shepherd earn Special Teams Player of the Year his squad of “PLAYMAKRS” also saw Gary Jennings and Sterling Hofrichter earn the XFL’s Play of the Year with their Fake Punt against the Vegas Vipers in Week 8. Woodbury’s unit also saw Kicker Donny Hageman set the XFL Record for longest converted Field Goal with a 59-yard kick against the Roughnecks during Week 7.
While Woodbury, or other media outlets haven’t announced his next move, he does become the second Special Teams Coordinator to depart from their XFL team. Houston Roughnecks Special Teams Coordinator Greg McMahon announced on May 24th via Football Scoop that he’d be joining the University of Tulane as the Green Wave’s Special Teams Coordinator for the 2023 Fall Season. With the 2023 offseason in full effect look for Coach Becht to be on the lookout for Woodbury’s replacement which won’t be an easy task replacing a Super Bowl champion.
