Roster Move: Vipers place Spearman, Tiller on IR

On Thursday, the Tampa Bay Vipers placed wide receiver Antonio Callaway on the injured reserve list. Today, two more players are winding up there as the team officially placed linebacker Ike Spearman and guard Andrew Tiller on the injured list.

In correspondence, the team signed linebacker Reggie Northrup and offensive tackle Na’Ty Rodgers. Northrup was cut from the team after training camp and was widely considered a surprise cut by the Vipers.

Rodgers is listed at a slim 299 lbs. standing at six-foot-five-inches for the tackle position. He was most recently with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, and most notably played in 10 games (starting eight) with the Montreal Alouettes in 2018.

Putting Tiller on the shelf will heavily affect the Vipers offensive depth chart, as the 30-year-old was a shoo-in for starter along the offensive line. Most likely at left guard alongside tackle Martez Ivey.

Spearman, on the other hand, was expected to be a depth linebacker with Emmanuel Beal and Terrance Plummer occupying the top two spots on the depth chart. Spearman played with the Birmingham Irons in the Alliance of American Football last year.

The Vipers still have a full week of practice before they head up to East Rutherford, New Jersey to open the XFL season against the New York Guardians on February 9th.
