San Antonio Brahmas Trade DB Kary Vincent Jr. To Houston Roughnecks

The XFL season is less than a month away from kicking off. Each team has spent these past few weeks figuring out who will and won’t be apart of their team moving forward.

The San Antonio Brahmas made a decision on one of their more intriguing players on Monday. San Antonio has traded cornerback Kary Vincent Jr. to the Houston Roughnecks, sources tell the XFL News Hub. The Brahmas are receiving wide receiver Darece Roberson Jr. in return.

The Brahmas’ decision to trade Vincent may come as a bit of a surprise. Vincent looked like the Brahmas top corner heading into training camp, but will instead take his talents across the state of Texas.

The 23-year-old corner played his college ball at LSU. He was a part of a standout LSU defense that went on to win the 2019 National Championship. Vincent opted out of the 2020 season to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.

At LSU, the now-former Brahmas corner had 87 tackles, six interceptions, and 16 pass breakups. He also earned All-American honors as part of the school’s track and field team.

NFL.com put a fourth-round draft grade on Vincent heading into the draft. The Denver Broncos drafted him with the 237th pick in the draft, and he earned a spot on the active roster out of training camp.

However, the Broncos never gave Vincent a shot. They ended up trading him to the Philadelphia Eagles at the 2021 NFL Trade Deadline in exchange for a 2022 sixth-round pick.

Vincent didn’t find a spot with the Eagles either and was cut in August of last year. He went on to sign with the San Francisco 49ers, but was released a week later. The Brahmas drafted the former LSU standout in November.

In return, the Brahmas add to their wide receiver group with Roberson. The 24-year-old Michigan native played collegiately at Wayne State University. He enjoyed a nice senior season that saw him catch 34 passes for 706 yards and nine touchdowns.

Roberson entered the 2020 NFL Draft but did not hear his name called. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals prior to the 2021 NFL Draft only to be waived that May. He also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts.

Roberson adds an element of speed the Brahmas could certainly use, holding a 4.35 40-yard dash time. He is also a big-play threat, averaging 20+ yards per catch his last two years in college. The 24-year-old also starred as a return man in college, averaging 32.4 yards on kick returns his senior year.

With Vincent no longer with the team, San Antonio’s cornerback depth chart gets more interesting. Rico Gafford and Luq Barcoo are likely the top two corners on the team now. However, players down the depth chart could make a push, such as the recently signed Kemah Siverand.
