The San Antonio Brahmas have been hard at work in recent days. They made the first trade of this new iteration of the XFL, sending Kary Vincent Jr. to the Houston Roughnecks.
On Wednesday, the Brahmas continued shuffling their roster around. They have added depth on their defensive line, signing defensive tackle Javier Edwards.
Edwards represents another Texas native coming to play his spring football for the Brahmas. The newest member of the roster played the final two seasons of his college ball at Colorado.
In 23 games for the Buffaloes from 2017 to 2018, Edwards racked up 61 total tackles, 5.5 for a loss, and 2.5 sacks. He also recorded a forced fumble in 2017 against Washington State.
Edwards went undrafted in 2019 but received a ton of interest as a priority free agent. He was contacted by the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, and New York Jets after the 2019 NFL Draft.
None of them won Edwards’ signature, however. He chose to sign on with the Houston Texans. He spent time on their practice squad before being released in October. The new Brahmas lineman signed with the Arizona Cardinals but never received much of a shot.
Edwards gives the Brahmas additional depth on the inside of their defensive line. It’s a welcomed addition, as the move comes on the heels of the recent release of former South Florida product Kelvin Pinkney.
