The Orlando Guardians officially signed 28-year-old quarterback Quinton Flowers on Monday night.
The announcement comes just a few hours after head coach Terrell Buckley’s weekly, Monday afternoon press conference.
“We’re signing another quarterback today,” Buckley told the media. “You guys are going to like this signing; we’re very excited about this young man.”
After about six hours of waiting, we now know the player Buckley was referring to. Flowers is a dynamic quarterback who most recently was seen playing in the Fan Controlled Football League. Prior to that, Flowers was a member of the Tampa Bay Vipers during the XFL’s most recent run in 2020.
The Miami native finished his final season in the ‘FCF’ with 14 completions for 335 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception. The dual-threat quarterback also had 31 rushing attempts for 269 yards and six touchdowns during his short tenure.
Flowers will look to replicate the success he had during his time at the University of South Florida. The former three-year starter currently holds 42 school records. His list of accolades is endless with several AAC honors during his career.
“We want the team to improve,” Buckley answered after being asked about Paxton Lynch continuing to start. “Whoever gives us that best opportunity to have the end result that everybody wants, we are going to do that…”
Flowers will surely have a shot to compete for the starting spot based on how poor Orlando’s quarterback play has been thus far. The Guardians are set to host the undefeated Houston Roughnecks at 7 PM EST on FX.
Flowers showed no interest in the USFL when it returned in 2022. Seems like his only interest was to play close to home in Florida.
