Players To Watch
Connor Cook and PJ Walker have both been performing well in training camp. It is unclear as of know who will start under center for the Roughneck come February 8th. In the team’s first preseason game, both QB’s split playing time and both tossed touchdown passes. We will be covering this depth chart battle closely as the first game quickly approaches.
June Jones has developed a reputation for having a pass-heavy offense throughout his coaching career. Expect the Roughnecks to be lethal through the air.
To have a great pass attack you need some great wide receivers and the Roughnecks have that in Sammie Coates and Kahlil Lewis. Coates has played 4 seasons in the NFL and at 6 foot 1 and 210 pounds, he is a big target and seems to be the person to secure the WR1 spot on the depth chart.
Lewis has shown flashes in training camp, especially in the team’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Wildcats. Expect the Coates and Lewis to be a dangerous duo for the Roughnecks.
Lastly, let us look at the defense. The Roughnecks have a great front 7. Kony Ealy has played 5 years in the NFL and has recorded 15 sacks in 63 games. Expect Ealy to be a dominant force on the Roughnecks defensive line.
Charles James is also a notable name that most Houston Texans fans will remember. The HBO Hard Knocks star was traded to the Roughnecks by the St. Louis BattleHawks.
He has played 34 games in his NFL career and works day in and day out to be the best at his position.
