XFL standout linebacker DeMarquis Gates of the Houston Roughnecks has been cut by the Minnesota Vikings. He signed with the team back in March. He was let go after the Vikings activated offensive lineman Oli Udoh from the Reserve/COVID-19. To keep an active roster of 80 players, Gates was waived.
Gates had 32 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception in 5 XFL games. He had one of the more memorable plays in the XFL season and made honorable mention in Mike Mitchell’s 2020 All-XFL Team.
Gates was the only XFL player on the Vikings. At only 24-year-old the linebacker could catch on with another team before the NFL season begins. He was drafted in the 8th round, 59th overall, in the Phase #3 portion of the 2020 XFL draft.
