Former Vipers QB Taylor Cornelius To Start For CFL’s Elks

On September 16th, Edmonton Elks starting quarterback Trevor Harris was placed on the six-game injured list due to a neck problem. The team then announced that Taylor Cornelius, former XFL quarterback for the Tampa Bay Vipers, would start against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday.

The Elks have a strong XFL connection, especially with Tampa Bay. Not only do they have Cornelius on the roster, but they also have wide receiver Jalen Tolliver, who has a touchdown catch this season. Tolliver recorded the fourth-most receiving yards in the XFL (297). Head coach Jaime Elizondo was previously the Vipers offensive coordinator before moving up North to the CFL with some of his players.

In four games with the Vipers in 2020, Cornelius completed 78 of 123 passes for 858 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. He also had 114 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. Before his stint in the XFL, Cornelius attended the Green Bay Packers’ training camp in 2019, but did not make the final roster.
