Former Battlehawks Backup QB Taylor Heinicke Set to Start for the Atlanta Falcons

The ballard of Taylor Heinicke continues, as Head Coach Arthur Smith decided to make a change at the Quarterback position. After choosing Desmond Ridder to be the leading man in Atlanta for the first 8 weeks of the season, Smith and company decided to give Heinicke the nod in Week 9 moving forward.

Heinicke is a bit of a local legend in XFL 2020 lore. Despite not even playing a snap for the St. Louis Battlehawks, the Old Dominion QB, rose to prominence via social media “pumping up” the crowd at the “Dome” couple with “shot gunning” seltzers with fellow Backup QB Nick Fitzgerald.

After the XFL 2020 shutdown, Heinicke would reenroll at Old Dominion sleeping on his sister’s couch, until and injury to Alex Smith and ineffective Dwayne Haskins prompted him into the starting lineup for Washington’s 2020 playoff game.

The rest is history for Heinicke, since his time in the XFL, he’s posted at a 12-11-1 record buoyed by 36 TDs (34 Passing 2 Rushing), along with plenty of highlights and fond memories. With Atlanta still currently in the playoff hunt, the Falcons turn to the XFL “legend” in hopes of providing a spark to earn a playoff berth and turn around their season. Heinicke has earned $15,236,951 in his NFL career per Spotrac.
