A former Battlehawk is making moves this week. Former St. Louis Battlehawk Wide Receiver L’Damian Washington was hired by Western Kentucky University as their Wide Receivers Coach/Passing Game Coordinator. Washington who was with the Battlehawks in 2020, started coaching 2019 for West Middle School in Columbia, Missouri only to join Oklahoma University in 2022.
Washington bounced around seven NFL teams, before signing with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2016. After getting released by Edmonton, Washington waited a year before getting another opportunity, by signing with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2017 appearing in 8 games recording 24 receptions for 236 yards and two touchdowns. After being released Washington came back south signing with the AAF’s Birmingham Iron and the XFL 2.0’s St. Louis Battlehawks.
Overall, during his American Alt-Football career, Washington totaled 36 Receptions for 302 Yards and 3 touchdowns between the AAF and XFL. Washington’s return to coaching should be viewed as a positive transition for the 2020 alumnus.
While it’s the goal of every alt-leaguer to transition to the NFL, coaching is definitely not a bad gig at all especially when Washington who is a motivational speaker loves helping young people. Now at WKU, Washington is in prime position to lead the next generation and maybe a couple of his pupils can make their way to the XFL.
