One week after Battlehawks Defensive Lineman Kevin Atkins earned an NFL contract with the Giants, Coach Anthony Becht saw another one of his defensive players make the transition to the NFL. Early on Thursday morning, Aaron Wilson reported that Mike Rose will be joining the Miami Dolphins after a successful workout earlier in the week.
Rose joins the Dolphins as his second attempt at an NFL roster. After coming out of Iowa State as a UDFA in 2022, Rose latched on with the Chiefs spending 2022 training camp with Kansas City only to be released on August 27th. He would be drafted by the Battlehawks in the XFL’s November draft and would appear in 8 games (6 starts), totaling 35 tackles in the 2023 XFL season.
Before signing with the Dolphins, Rose also worked out for the Cleveland Browns upon the completion of the XFL season. The Battlehawks who have seen Nine of their players transition to the NFL, were rather aggressive during the 2023 Rookie Draft at the Linebacker position claiming the rights to Johnny Buchanan out of Delaware who mimics a similar skillset to the former Iowa State Defensive Player of the Year.
Rose becomes the XFL’s 38th player to secure an NFL contract since the conclusion of the 2023 season. With XFL players continuing to work out for NFL teams and injuries during training camp beginning to mount, expect more players to continue to earn opportunities as the NFL season progresses. Rose now joins, Jaryd Jones-Smith, Marcell Ateman, Darius Shepherd, Hakeem Butler, Gary Jennings, Kevin Atkins, LaCale London, and Lukas Denis as one of Nine Battlehawks players to earn an NFL opportunity.
