The XFL’s latest signing from Canada is WR Armanti Edwards. The 31 year old is coming off an 1,014 yard, 7 TD season with the Argonauts, and was a big part of their offense in Marc Trestman’s 2017 Grey Cup run. He and Vipers WR SJ Green had a great run together in Toronto, and there’s a possibility they’re looking for a reunion in Tampa Bay.
Edwards started his football career as a quarterback at Appalachian State, where he absolutely dominated at the FCS level.
As a true freshman, he led the Mountaineers to a FCS National Championship victory vs UConn, then did it again the next year, outdueling a Joe Flacco-led Delaware team. He won the Walter Payton Award in his Junior and Senior years and remains one of the FCS’s most decorated players ever.
He was drafted in the 3rd round by the Carolina Panthers in 2010 and was converted to a gadget player. He only threw a few passes there and was used sparingly as a receiver/returner, and only truly came into his own in the Canadian Football League. In just 4 seasons up there, he’s put up 3,235 yards from scrimmage, 17 Touchdowns and helped Toronto win a title.
He’s just the most recent in a rash of highly productive CFL veterans who’ve ventured back down to the US to play in the XFL, as he joins SJ Green and Derek Dennis. With his versatile skill set as a passer, rusher, receiver, and returner, teams will be eager to bring him into the fold while he gets acclimated with Team Nine.

Don’t forget Jameer Thurman who scored for DC on defense last week. He spent two productive seasons in Calgary, the class of the CFL.
