Breaking Down the Battlehawks 2023 UDFAs

Several days after the Battlehawks added 10 new players to the team via the XFL Draft, St. Louis continued to “retool” for the 2024 season by claiming the rights of Seven more players for the upcoming season. The Battlehawks, who have seen Seven players so far earn NFL opportunities look to continue strengthen their roster in a quest for an XFL Championship come next spring.

WR Kemari Averett Bethune-Cookman

Averett began his college career at Louisville from 2018 to 2019 before transferring to Bethune Cookman in 2020. While at Bethune-Cookman Averett totaled 91 Receptions, 1333 yards, and 17 touchdowns while adding an additional 144 yards on 15 receptions at Louisville.

DL Eric Black Stony Brook

Black started his career at the University of Buffalo before transferring to Stony Brook university in 2022. The Rochester Native would put together his best season of his college career in 2022, totally 5.0 in 10 games. Most recently, Black earned a mini-camp invite with the NY Giants.

RB Aidan Borguet Harvard

Borguet finished with an Ivy League-best 1,182 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns adding an additional 58 yards receiving and a TD in 2022 earning All-Ivy Honors. After going undrafted, Borguet would earn an invite from the Kansas City Chiefs to their Mini-Camp however, was not signed.

LB Marcus Cushnie UMass

Cushnie spent time at Alabama A&M, and Florida State before spending his 2022 season at UMass. While at Alabama A&M, Cushnie earned All-SWAC honors helping lead the team to a SWAC Championship in the spring of 2021. While at UMass his senior year Cushnie, totaled 47 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 2022.

WR Jaylen Hall Western Kentucky University

After going undrafted in the NFL, Hall recently was signed to Edmonton Elks roster on July 16th only to be released three days later. While in college Hall spent time at Western Michigan (18-21), before transferring to WKU during his senior season. Hall earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors for C-USA, before finishing his career with 138 receptions for 2291 yards and 20 touchdowns.

DL Dom Peterson Nevada

Peterson finished his career at Nevada third in program history for sacks (28) and second in TFL (55.5) as a Five-year starter. Recently, Peterson found his way up north with the Toronto Argonauts on May 8th only to be released 11 days later.  Peterson was a three-time All-Mountain West honoree, making first team in 2019 and second team in 2020 and 2022. He was All-MW honorable mention in 2021.

DL Justin Ragin Jackson State

Ragin spent four seasons at Jackson State before becoming a full-time starter in 2022. The Tennessee native totaled 10 sacks in 2022, with 16 Tackles for Loss before earning All-SWAC 2nd Team Honors his senior season. Ragin earned an invite to the HBCU Legacy Bowl as well.
