San Antonio Brahmas kicker Parker Romo drilled a 57-yard field goal against the Seattle Sea Dragons on Saturday night. His kick is a record for the XFL, but it also goes a bit beyond the spring football sphere.
The Sea Dragons play at Lumen Field in Seattle. Lumen Field is also home to the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. Many of football’s best kickers have tried their luck on that field, but only one kicker holds the longest kick in the stadium’s history: Parker Romo.
Breech, who writes for CBS Sports, noted that former Seahawks kicker Steven Hauschka’s longest field goal with Seattle was 58 yards. However, that kick came on the road. He attempted two field goals from 60+ yards but missed them both.
Romo’s kick on Saturday surpassed even his career-long in college. The Virginia Tech product drilled a kick from 52 yards in October 2021 against Notre Dame. He went seven of nine on field goals from 40+ yards, with two makes from 48 yards and another from 51.
After college, Romo signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He did not make the team, and is receiving his first shot at professional football in the XFL.
So far, he is making the most of it. Romo has missed just one field goal all season long, back in Week 1 against the St. Louis Battlehawks. Romo’s 57-yarder is 10 yards further than the season-long kicks for DC Defenders kicker Matt McCrane and Vegas Vipers kicker Bailey Giffen.
The XFL is a league of opportunity for many NFL hopefuls. If Romo can keep this up, he will certainly land an NFL contract from some team this summer.
