The San Antonio Brahmas confirmed the loss of quarterback Reid Sinnett for the season recently. And the team didn’t wait long to make a move for a signal-caller.
This represents the biggest move in a flurry of moves the Brahmas made this past week. The 27-year-old played collegiately at Virginia and went undrafted in 2018.
Benkert signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent after the draft. He appeared on the team’s active roster once in the 2020 season, but didn’t play.
Benkert then signed with the Green Bay Packers after being waived by the Falcons in February 2021. The 27-year-old did appear in a game with the Packers in Week 14 that season. Benkert took two kneel downs to clinch a 45-30 victory.
Benkert was originally signed to the Roughnecks last December, but he declined to sign with the team. Upon being traded to the Brahmas, he has signed with San Antonio.
Among the other moves the team has made, San Antonio released wide receivers Darece Roberson Jr. and Jalen Tolliver. Tolliver was eventually signed back on Thursday. San Antonio also signed linebacker Terrill Hanks.
Finally, the Brahmas placed Sinnett and linebacker Riko Jeffers on the reserve/injured list. The team also activated wide receivers Landen Akers and Calvin Turner from the reserve/injured list.
