It was a busy day for the XFL with all 8 teams claiming the rights of 28 players late Tuesday Afternoon. The Battlhawks made an additional move to strengthen their roster for the 2024 season. The Battlehawks traded fan favorite and the Mullett Cowboy Silas Kelly for Charlie Taumopeanu of the Seattle Sea Dragons who was a Battlehawks 2023 Supplemental Draft Pick.
Kelly joins Seattle after recording 17 Tackles, 1 TFL, and 1 Int for St. Louis. Originally a UDFA after spending Six seasons at Coastal Carolina, Kelly was waived by with an injury designation by Cleveland in August of 2022. Kelly would be selected by the Battlehawks on Day 2 of the “Open Phase” of the XFL draft.
Taumoepeau returns to St. Louis after being drafted by St. Louis in the 14th Round of the Supplemental Draft in January of 2023. He’d be traded to Seattle, for journeyman Offensive Lineman Kai Absheer, and would find a nice niche for himself in the Sea Dragons Offense. Taumoepeau proved to be a versatile option in June Jones Offense seeing time at WR, TE, RB, FB, and H-Back. In 2023 Taumoepeau total 6 receptions for 60 yards, along with 6 carries for 53 yards on the ground.
The Battlehawks now have a Tight End room with Jovani Haskins, Jake Sutherland, Free Agent Kemari Averrett, and now Taumoepeau. With additional Seven players claimed after the XFL Combine, the Battlehawks in 2024 look to continue to re-tool the roster in hopes of making a playoff push for the city in the upcoming season.
