Now known as the other QB from the XFL’s St Louis BattleHawks, Jordan Ta’amu has resigned with Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. This is his second time with the team this year. Ta’amu was on the Detroit Lions practice squad at the end of the NFL season.
Now that the NFL playoffs are here, teams are not taking any chances with their QB position. It makes sense for Kansas City to have some QB insurance and bring Ta’amu back. There is no telling what could happen with injuries or a COVID outbreak.
Earlier this NFL season Ta’amu was on the Chiefs Practice Squad before being cut in late October. He has had a roller coaster professional football experience over the last year.
He was the starting QB for the St Louis BattleHawks who were 3 – 2 before the XFL shut down. He was one of the first players to sign an NFL contract out of the XFL.
In late August coaches and players on the Chiefs praised his play including head coach Andy Reid.
“Tough time to come in as a quarterback, in a year like this,” said Reid, ”but Jordan’s worked his tail off. It’s evident to all of us that he has spent the time working. We have a lot of words that are calculated in these plays that you have to be able to spit out in a short period of time and he does that well. Then, he’s strong.
He’s a strong body and he has a strong mind, and that normally leads to good things. Now, how many reps is he going to get during this time? We’re short on practices for the year—these first five practices, we’re short on time, period, on the field—so he might not get as much time as we ramp up here. But his time will come down the road, but I sure love his attitude.”

Then in October, Ta’amu tested positive for COVID-19. Three weeks later he was released. He then got a tryout with the Detroit Lions in early November. But the Lions didn’t sign him until mid-December.
The life of a pro football player.
According to our own Mike Mitchell
“The Lions didn’t offer or sign Jordan to a futures deal. So Jordan was free and clear to sign elsewhere. Strange year/season for him all around.”
Now he is back with the defending Super Bowl Champions who are poised to make another run at a Super Bowl ring.
Given what happened with the Washington Football team last weekend with his backup in St Louis Taylor Heinicke starting a playoff game. Anything is possible this season.
