The same day that Detroit Lions starting QB Matthew Stafford lands on the COVID list, the team has brought in BattleHawks QB Jordan Ta’amu for a tryout.
Ta’amu was last on the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. He was recently released after being activated from the COVID list. He threw for 1,050 yards and 5 touchdowns in 5 XFL games. He also led the league in rushing yards for QBs at 217 rushing yards on 41 carries.
The Lions have Chase Daniel and David Blough on their main roster. Detroit paid Daniel $13 million in the offseason to be Stafford’s primary backup. Ta’amu would be an insurance policy if one of those two QBs goes down.
However, according to Stafford’s wife, he has tested negative, which means he could be back this weekend.
