Arlington Renegades See Fourth Player Sign to NFL, WR Victor Bolden to Houston Texans

Another one off the board for the Arlington Renegades as a fourth player on their roster heads to the NFL with WR Victor Bolden signing with the Houston Texans.

NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reported late Saturday night that the Houston Texans are signing Renegades wide receiver Victor Bolden to a contract.

Bolden becomes the first offensive player for Arlington to be signed as the three other players have been on defense. Linebacker Willie Taylor was the first while defensive back Darren Evans and defensive tackle Bruce Hector followed suit.

It was a mixed bag of a season for Bolden with the Renegades as he signed with the team after the season started. He couldn’t stay on the field often dealing with multiple injuries throughout the season including hamstring, shoulder, and groin injuries. Bolden finished the regular season with three catches for 40 yards and one kickoff return for 26 yards. In the postseason, he recorded one catch for eight yards and one punt return for nine yards.

Prior to the XFL, Bolden started his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers recording one catch for ten yards in the 2018 season but was known more for returning kicks for the team. He would also play for the Buffalo Bills and the Detroit Lions before landing in the USFL in 2022. Bolden was among one of the best receivers in the USFL, catching 42 passes for 422 yards and one touchdown for the Birmingham Stallions. His strong performance got him looks with the Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos last season.

The reality is Bolden has great speed and can make big plays when presented with the opportunity. His stats in the XFL are not a fair depiction of the type of impactful player he can be. Injuries derailed any chance for him to get significant playing time as other receivers stepped up to the plate for the Renegades.

While the potential of how great Bolden could have been for Arlington is a loss, the Renegades have plenty of talented receivers to keep their core intact. JaVonta Payton, LuJuan Winningham, Tyler Vaughns, Brandon Arconado, and Caleb Vander Esch are all their top receivers from last season. The depth of the receiving core can still reassure Renegades fans that even though losing Bolden is tough, they are set up for success in 2024.
