The Arlington Renegades continue to see their players get NFL opportunities as one of the top offensive linemen in the league Garrett McGhin signs with the NFL.
NFL Draft Diamonds was the first outlet to report the news Sunday afternoon that McGhin was signing with the Buffalo Bills. The league confirmed the news via the social media site X Monday morning.
With the signing, the XFL currently has 59 players signed to NFL teams as of May 15 from the release of this article. McGhin becomes the sixth Renegade to land in the NFL as he joins defensive lineman Tomasi Laulile, wide receiver Victor Bolden, defensive lineman Bruce Hector, linebacker Willie Taylor, and defensive back Darren Evans.
Garrett McGhin played a critical role in the Renegades’ offense during the season being one of two offensive linemen starting all 12 games joining Mike Horton. McGhin was the starting right tackle for the team and helped Arlington win the XFL Championship back in May.
In 2019, McGhin was undrafted in the NFL Draft first signing with the Buffalo Bills. Later in 2019, he would sign with the Carolina Panthers where he appeared in two games with the team before an injury prevented him from playing the rest of the season. He would have stints with the Bills again and the Jacksonville Jaguars before heading to spring football.
The New Jersey Generals drafted McGhin in the fifth round of the first USFL Draft in 2022. He would only miss one game as he was named All-USFL at the end of the season helping the team make the playoffs. He spent training camp with the New York Giants before being released by the team. That move led to him being drafted by the Renegades back in November.
While fans can be happy to see one of the best offensive linemen in the XFL sign with the NFL, it’s a blow to Arlington’s offensive line. Teton Saltes was listed as McGhin’s backup at right tackle which could open the door for him to take that spot.
It’s clear that NFL teams are starting to look at the defending XFL Champions for talent and they seem to be producing in preseason so far.
