NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco has reported that the San Francisco 49ers will add former Bengals RB Jacques Patrick to their active roster. Tom Pelissero was the first to announce to signing.
“Jacques Patrick gained 156 yards and one TD on 31 rushing attempts (5.0 avg) in the #Bengals preseason. He also caught three passes for 23 yards. He did not get invite to 2019 NFL Scouting Combine after four-year career at Florida State. He joins the #49ers 53-man roster.”

RB JaMychal Hasty is out at least 4 weeks due to a high ankle sprain, while Raheem Mostert’s season is over thanks to a knee injury. Rookie Trey Sermon will likely be in the concussion protocol for Week 3, so, the running back room is depleted.
Practice squad players aren’t under actual team contracts, and can be signed by any team who would want them. San Francisco needed the depth, and Pateick fit that role.
The Niners had also worked out Lamar Miller, Duke Johnson and T.J. Yeldon.
Patrick rushed for 254 yards and 2 TDs on 60 carries with the XFL’s Tampa Bay Vipers. Over four seasons at Florida State, the 6-foot-2, 234-pound running back rushed for 1,790 yards and 17 TDs. He averaged 4.9 rushes a carry in Tallahassee, and caught 47 passes for 356 yards and a score.
A bruising north-south runner, he should be able to contribute to the Kyle Shanahan offense quickly.
