XFL fans got excited to see one of the new owners, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson make a social media post XFL related. In an Instagram post made on Tuesday, Johnson posted a photo of himself with all eight XFL helmets. The photo shows him holding a Seattle Dragons and a New York Guardians helmet along with his framed $7 that he had in his pocket when he got cut by the CFL back in 1995.
The post was a welcome surprise for fans that have been craving XFL content since the news came out about the new ownership back on August 2. Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Gerry Cardinale of RedBird Capital officially took over the league on August 21. That was almost two weeks ago.
Fans have been questioning why no new information or news has been released regarding the XFL. They are left with too many questions without anything to go off of. There are questions regarding who will be the commissioner, who the coaches will be, who all is returning, and many more.
The main question is when will fans get more news. Their patience is starting to hit their limit as many fans are ready for news. What fans need to realize is that it will take time for the league to be built back up.
How Long Will It Take for News About XFL to Come Out
Vince McMahon announced back in January of 2018 that the XFL would return. No other news about the league wasn’t released until June of 2018 when it was announced that Oliver Luck was the commissioner and CEO of the league. That’s five months fans were left without getting much news about the XFL.
While as fans, we want to hear more news and hear them fast, the league can’t be build overnight and a lot of planning must be done. Garcia, Johnson, and Cardinale must first find a leader for the league with a CEO and commissioner. They then have to decide on which coaches and other staff members to bring back. The league also needs to try to bring players back into the XFL and sign new players.
A realistic timeline for the league to have more announcements would be mid to late September if the XFL plays in February next year. That should be when we find out more about who will run the operation and which staff members are returning or being added for the first time. If the league doesn’t return until 2022, news could come later to give them time to build it back up.
This may not be the news that fans want to hear, but with a little patience, they could be in for a wild ride with news up until February 2021. Either way, fans can be excited in anticipation to seeing how the foundation of the league will be built.

This is just my opinion as a fan but I feel the new owners should at least come out and let their fan base know what direction they are thinking as far as when the league will return. Currently fans have no idea whatsoever if they are thinking 2021 or 2022! I’m not sure how giving the fans a target date would hurt the league. We all know that it’s a process and won’t happen overnight but I remember that even Vince McMahon stated back in 2018 that he planned on being up and running for the 2020 season.
I would love to see XFL football in 2021 but I don’t know with as quick and almost rushed everything would be I would think 2022 best option. If they Think they can get it back for 2021 I’m all for it
