Houston Roughnecks head coach June Jones spoke with Mark Berman of Fox 26 (KRIV) in Houston Texas about what’s next for the XFL. Jones talks about the process of selection tier 1 quarterback, Johnny Manziel and more.
Here are some notes on what he had to say;
“Each team has given(the XFL) a list of maybe 8 or 9 and a priority. Every team did that. Trying to place quarterbacks to the team and coaches who want to have them.”
“Johnny Manziel is probably on five lists and was on one of mine.”
“The league is making decisions for what is best for the league. (In regards to Manziel)”
“The XFL draft will consist of players from the AAF, CFL, Spring Showcase and NFL Cuts.”
It sounds like six XFL teams have Johnny Manziel on their QB list. We know Dallas Renegades are not one of them. Where exactly in that priority is Manziel we don’t know. He could be #1 on some lists or at the bottom at #9.
Jones also clarifies that each team’s head coach will pick his quarterback. Most likely meaning Landry Jones is the Dallas Renegades starting QB.

Johnny Manziel made some big plays in the CFL and was released by people who are no longer working. If he would have had more time to prepare he would have led Montreal to the playoffs. He’s a good quarterback.

Interesting to not see Mr. Manziel in the Pool list, especially considering I find no criminal record. They are no different from the NFL — easily influenced by an abusive national sports media. I’m not as excited as before about following XFL.
