XFL: Who Is The Potential San Antonio Brahma Quarterback Jawon Pass?

We are less than a week away from the XFL hosting their draft at the UFC Apex center in Las Vegas, but before the draft, the XFL has much more to unveil, like uniforms and who will suit up at quarterback for each franchise come February 2023.

XFL News Hub obtained a list of tentative quarterback assignments for XFL franchises. However, as Mike Mitchell pointed out in his article, “there are no guarantees that any of these players will be day-one starters” when the XFL relaunches in February 2023 due to player movement and opportunities opening up with other leagues.

There is still a ton to unpack regarding quarterback assignments in the XFL, but we can still break down the potential signal caller for the Brahma’s, Jawon Pass.

Who is Jawon Pass?

Jawon Pass was a 4-star recruit out of Columbus, Georgia. During his high school career, he received offers from big-time Power 5 schools like Mississippi State, NC State, Texas A&M, and Florida before committing to the University of Louisville. Unfortunately, during his time at Louisville, he suffered several injuries that kept him from completing an entire season. Pass’s healthiest and best season was the 2018 season.

Pass was active for all 11 games that season and threw for 1,960 yards, eight touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Unfortunately, that was the same season the University of Louisville fired Bobby Petrino after his second tenure as head coach after starting the season 2-8, which was the worst start to any season in a decade.

After graduating from the University of Louisville, Pass transferred to Prarie View A&M for the 2021 season. Pass had the best season of his career as a grad transfer for the Panthers, contributing to the Panther’s 7-5 record and 6-3 record in the SWAC. Pass finished the season with 16 touchdowns to 12 interceptions while amassing 2600+ yards through the air and improving his completion percentage.

What’s promising is that Pass has displayed growth in all statistical categories from 2018 to 2021, especially in accuracy. In 2018 Pass completed 54% of his passes, and in his lone season with Prarie View A&M, he completed 64% of his passes. In addition, Pass increased his completion percentage by 10%, which proves that he has focused on his development as a quarterback.

If the reports are accurate, Brahma’s offensive coordinator Jaime Elizondo will coach Pass, who has a proven track record of developing quarterbacks. It could be a partnership that will help Pass become a prolific starter in the XFL or enhance his chances of reaching the NFL, but either way, the potential Pass has will make it easier for his coaching staff to build a tailor-made offense around him.
