XFL Team Officially Returning To Seattle As The Sea Dragons

XFL team names and logos have officially been announced, and Seattle fans will be excited to know they’ll still have a team in 2023. However, there’s a slight branding change: they’ll be known as the ‘Seattle Sea Dragons’ rather than the ‘Seattle Dragons’ like in the 2020 iteration of the league.

Merchandise with the new team gear is currently available on Shop.XFL.com.

Thoughts on XFL Seattle’s Rebranded Team Name & Logo

The altered team name has been hit or miss with fans so far, but with people regularly referring to the Seattle Seahawks as ‘The Hawks’, I’m sure continuing to call XFL Seattle ‘The Dragons’ will be perfectly acceptable if fans desire to do so.

While opinions on the new team name have varied, thoughts on the rebranded logo have not been great, regardless of who you ask. Fans have been relatively vocal about liking the previous logo more than the new one, as it seemed more aggressive and detailed than the updated version. However, the team’s alternate logo, featuring a trident and an ‘S,’ has gained some more positive attention.

I’ve heard the new logo referred to as a ‘Sea Worm’ many times at this point, but after about a week of the updated branding being publicly available, it seems to be growing on some of the fanbase. While it might take time for some to accept the updated branding and logo fully, at least Seattle sports fans can say they have a spring football team once again. Additionally, Seattle’s team has a quality group of coaches and front-office personnel leading them.

XFL Draft 2022

The next step for head coach Jim Haslett and the Sea Dragons will be acquiring players, which is coming much sooner than some might expect. Two quarterbacks will be assigned to each team on November 15th, followed by the draft on November 16th and 17th, hosted in Las Vegas at UFC Apex.

Early reports say one of the quarterbacks expected to join the Sea Dragons is University of Colorado alumni Steven Montez, who spent time with the Washington Commanders in 2020 and with the Detroit Lions in 2021 and 2022. However, nothing will be officially confirmed regarding Quarterback assignments until November 15th.
