The San Antonio Brahmas have had a tough opening week to their XFL existence. The team lost their season opener after allowing 15 points in the final three minutes of the game. And now, they are dealing with some off-the-field issues.
The XFL has fired Brahmas Mike Sheehan the league has confirmed. Sheehan held the title of VP of Business/Event Operation with the franchise. Despite reports, Sheehan was not the GM. The Director Player Personnel is Will Lewis. This had nothing to do with the teams roster.
Speculation ran wild that other departures with other teams may be coming. However, XFL also confirmed the firing of Sheehan is a personal matter. The move is not related to finances, and no other firings are coming for other XFL franchises.
The move comes after a very encouraging opening weekend for the Brahmas franchise. They led the league in attendance and merchandise sold for Week 1, and fans on social media commended the energy in the stadium.
The XFL also made a huge commitment to the San Antonio market prior to opening kickoff. XFL owner Dwayne Johnson announced the inaugural XFL Championship Game will be held at The Alamodome on May 13.
The XFL clearly remains committed to the city of San Antonio despite the move to fire Sheehan. After Week 1, the league certainly has high hopes for what the Brahmas could do for the league in a business sense. The move to let Sheehan go seems to be down to a personal issue between him and the league.
