Three Things To Watch
The Streak: It is hard to ignore the Roughnecks undefeated streak, even if you don’t consider the 2020 iteration of the team to have shared history with this new iteration. Houston has not lost a game in its existence. The Brahmas have a huge chance to send a message to the rest of the XFL with a win at TDECU Stadium. Can they pull it off in enemy territory? This is a storyline to keep your eye on.
Quarterbacks: Quietly, this game features a marquee XFL quarterback matchup. San Antonio’s Jack Coan and Houston’s Brandon Silvers have both had impressive starts to the season. Silvers is second in the league in passing yards (445) and first in yards per attempt (6.4). Coan leads the league in completion percentage (68.3%) and first-down percentage (36.7%). They are tied for the league lead in touchdown passes with four each. These signal callers are finding their groove in the XFL, and we could be in for a showdown on Sunday night.
Defense: Similarly to the quarterbacks, both defenses have had impressive starts to the season. Houston leads all teams with 12 sacks through the first two games. San Antonio is behind them in second place with seven sacks. The Roughnecks have made a lot of plays defensively, picking off four passes as a team. The Brahmas have been impressive against the pass this season, allowing just 277 yards across their two games. They limited the Guardians to just 87 passing yards last week. Houston, on the other hand, has allowed 387 yards passing through two weeks, with 267 of that total coming against those same Guardians in Week 1. Both defenses have played well in a lot of areas of the game, and will look to control the game on Sunday.
San Antonio Brahmas (1-1) at Houston Roughnecks (2-0) Prediction
This game could either be a shootout from two star quarterbacks, or a defensive slugfest. Either way, these teams should put on an entertaining game. They both have a lot of confidence on the strength of wins in Week 2, and it could go either way. However, expect the Roughnecks to come away with another win. San Antonio is more beat up than they are, and Houston’s pass rush is nothing to joke about. The Roughnecks stay undefeated after Sunday night.
Prediction: Houston Roughnecks 28, San Antonio Brahmas 18
