Rumored XFL St Louis Announcement June 1st, DC Defenders Will Get A New Name

According to Randy Karraker, co-host of Karraker & Smallmon on 101ESPN in St Louis. The St Louis XFL team is back with an announcement coming June 1st.

“We are BACK, baby. We are baaaack!!! Jun 1st announcement.”

The return of the XFL to St Louis would not be surprising as the BattleHawks were the top team in the league in terms of interest and ticket sales.

A day after the XFL announced its exclusive TV deal with Disney at the Disney Upfronts in NYC. Frank Cusumano of KSDK reported that The Dome at America’s Center had reserved five-weekend dates for spring of 2023. Presumably, those would be XFL games.

The next day we got a report by Mark Bertman, Sports Director at Fox 26 (KRIV), that the XFL is returning to Houston, Texas. We could see more of these leaks before they hit the June 1st day. The question is, what will they be announcing.

Will the XFL just announce that it is returning to St Louis for the 2023 season only, or will they announce all eight cities? According to our own XFL Insider Mike Mitchell, those cities are DC, St Louis, Orlando, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Las Vegas, and Seattle. June 1st is a Wednesday so expect something on their new partner ESPN.

According to former DC Defenders content director Troy Machir, the DC Defenders’ name will not be used if the team returns to DC in 2023. So the likely hood that the XFL releases its cities only seems more probable. It is already out there, and the stadium deals look to be wrapping up.

“Ive been told that if Washington, D.C. does get an XFL 3.0 team, they will not be named “The Defenders.”

We still hear rumblings of team names over the summer, possibly in August. The league could be finalizing the team name over the next several months. The XFL recently moved its trademarks from Alpha Opco to XFL Properties. Signaling the league is getting ready to announce something.

There has been a problem with the “Defenders” all along Someone filed opposition to the name. Even though “Final Action” has been taken it could still be appealed but it might not be worth the time and effort.

I wouldn’t be surprised if XFL & USFL merge, with THE ROCK being the owner.
