Roughnecks K Sergio Castillo Signs With New York Jets

The number of former XFL players now with NFL teams is up to 23, as Houston Roughnecks K Sergio Castillo has been signed to the New York Jets.

Garcia was an undrafted free agent out of West Texas A&M in 2014. Signed with the Falcons, but even after a successful camp and preseason, was unable to usurp Matt Bryant.

Castillo went on to play for 4 CFL teams, and a bit in the offseason for the AAF’s San Antonio Commanders, before joining the Roughnecks in 2020.

He would sign a 2-year deal with the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League, before opting-out after their season was canceled. He was a CFL All-Star in 2019.

He is one of 10 Roughnecks players to sign with pro teams. P.J. Walker, Edmond Robinson, and Saivion Smith are the only ones remaining on NFL rosters.
