Wednesday’s practice saw Antonio Callaway, the Vipers’ top wide receiver go down with an apparent lower leg injury, according to several reports.
A string of tweets from local reporters who were in attendance confirm the events:
Oh no. Antonio Callaway down on the ground. Helmet off. Doesn’t look good. I didn’t see the injury. Details coming… #XFL #XFLVipers— EE (@EvansEric10) January 29, 2020
Here comes the cart…. damn, man.— EE (@EvansEric10) January 29, 2020
The cart is never a good sign for an injury. It shows the medical staff decided any additional pressure could negatively impact the injury, so ultimate precautions were taken.
Immediately following practice, Vipers head coach Marc Trestman was asked about Callaway’s status and said the following:
#XFL #Vipers coach Marc Trestman has no update on WR Antonio Callaway yet. Said doctors will look at him later today.— EE (@EvansEric10) January 29, 2020
Former #Gators player Antonio Callaway was injured in @XFLVipers practice today. Coach Trestman said there isn’t an official report yet, but it was a lower leg injury. He was lying down in the end zone and had to be taken out of practice. pic.twitter.com/bhpTdk4igv— Mari Faiello (@faiello_mari) January 29, 2020
Callaway was a late arrival to Vipers training camp on January 16th, but his impact was immediately felt. He was awarded a place on the 52-man roster despite being almost two-weeks late to camp.
As soon as an update is given regarding the specificity, severity, and timetable for return XFL News Hub will have it.
