In another major shakeup on offense, the Arlington Renegades are waiving running back Keith Ford and re-signing running back Kenneth Farrow.
The team confirmed the news Friday night just under two days prior to their week three matchup against the Orlando Guardians.
While the running game for Arlington has not been where the team wanted it to be, the move still comes as a surprise. Renegades head coach Bob Stoops spoke very highly of Ford during training camp for his performance in their camp. Ford ended up beating Farrow for the job which resulted in the surprising cut of Farrow at the end of training camp.
The season has not gone as planned for Ford though as he has struggled to get any traction with De’Veon Smith getting most of the carries. Ford has recorded 15 carries for 35 yards in two games with the team this season. Now he becomes a free agent who could hop on anything XFL team as a fill-in should injuries occur.
Farrow returns to the team as he will be competing with Adrian Killins for the backup role. It’s unclear whether Farrow will be playing against the Guardians, but he brings a wealth of experience to the backfield. He ran for 192 yards in his NFL career with the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots. Farrow added 372 yards and four touchdowns with the San Antonio Commanders of the AAF in 2019 and 156 yards with a touchdown in the XFL with the Seattle Dragons in 2020.
This is the latest move of big shakeups for the offense after the team announced a change of quarterback with Kyle Sloter taking over for Drew Plitt. Farrow has played well wherever he has played and should be able to fill in as a nice complementary back for Smith. It will be interesting to see if Killins is used more in the offense since his skill sets are more speed and receiving back. Either way, this could be the movement the Renegades’ offense needs to get back on track.
