In a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) earlier today, the Renegades’ Defensive Coordinator fielded questions from XFL fans, and we got some great insights on the 2020 season. Moving forward, one fan asked him:
“How was the XFL last year? And how do you think it will be in the future? Would you join it as a DC again?”
Woods replied: “
“Nothing bad to say. Incredible experience. With the right folks pushing it forward I think it has a chance to become even more successful.
I’d definitely consider it.”
Renegades fans should be very excited. Haven’t heard from Bob Stoops since the shutdown, but Chris Woods put together a tough defensive unit that could’ve been something special before the season died.
Even when the team lost Landry Jones at QB, this unit kept Philip Nelson and Co in the game all the way till the end.
He helped CB Josh Hawkins and LB Christian Kuntz make their way to the Falcons and Steelers respectively and would be a great option to lead the Renegades defense next season, regardless of who the HC is.
It seems like he’s also very excited for the direction of the league these days, and when asked about the new ownership he said.
“Don’t forget about his business partner, Dany Garcia. Think it’s what the league needed to survive if it’s going to: high powered visionaries with definite plans. Have enjoyed reading what I have seen thus far about their plans and what they’d like to see happen with the league.“
He stated that he hasn’t heard from the League since the shutdown, but is waiting on a call. If we’re going to get up and running, getting coaches back under the roof is the first step.
Woods, the former Head coach of Texas State is now with the Jayhawks at Kansas as a Senior Defensive Analyst, but maybe the XFL’s new ownership can steal him back.
