Arlington, Texas (December 13, 2022) – The XFL today announced that Charles Johnson has been hired as Vice President of Business and Event Operations for the Arlington Renegades. In the role, Johnson will oversee the team’s business performance and activations to elevate awareness, drive fan and community engagement, and execute gameday experiences based on the League’s strategic plans.
“We are excited to have Charles lead the business staff of the Arlington Renegades,” said Brooke Campbell, XFL’s Senior Vice President of Team Services. “Charles has a wealth of experience in the DFW market, and he is the right person to lead the charge in our hub city as we head into 2023.”

The San Antonio native has more than 15 years of experience in professional and college athletics, including extensive expertise in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. He most recently spent the last two seasons as Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for the Seattle Mariners, where he was charged with leading all corporate partnership initiatives for the franchise.
Prior to his role with the Mariners, he served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for the Dallas Wings (WNBA) and the Panther City Lacrosse Club (NLL) and as Manager of Corporate Partnerships for the Dallas Cowboys. He began his career in 2006 as an inside sales representative for the Texas Rangers and moved on to the Cowboys as a sales consultant before joining the New York Yankees as a sales manager. Following his tenure with the Yankees, Johnson was Director of Ticket Sales and Service for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and Sports Marketing from Texas Tech in 2002 and 2004, respectively. He was also a defensive back for the Red Raiders football team under head coach Mike Leach.
Charles currently sits on the Board of Directors as President of Shameka’s Angels, an HIV & AIDS foundation based in San Antonio, Texas.
Matt Mallian joins Renegades as Communications Director: Matt Mallian joined the team in October 2022 as Director of Team Communications and Media Relations. He spent the previous six seasons with the Texas Rangers, ending his tenure as Assistant Director of Baseball Information after originally joining the club as an intern in 2017. Mallian graduated from Elon University in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. As a student, he completed internships with the Carolina Hurricanes, USA Baseball, Elon University Athletics, and the Burlington (N.C.) Times-News. The Chicago-area native relocated to Texas from Raleigh, N.C., and currently resides in Dallas.
